The 2018 Qld Super sprint series had a wet start on the first weekend in Feb. 80 Competitors from all over Qld and Northern NSW attended the first Round of the A Series at Morgan Park Raceway in Warwick Qld running on the large 3 km “K” circuit. Most braved the conditions with some coming a little unstuck and finding the edges of the track are not the ideal racing line. Due to the wet weather, times were slow and only 4 runs were achieved on the sat.
Sunday came and so did the sun, giving the track surface some better temperature and adhesion. The warmer dry weather meant more of the larger horse powered vehicles decided to try and put down some good lap times and possibly score some championship points. 3 runs were achieved in better conditions giving 7 runs for the weekend…Vikki Paxton with her Dallara took 1st place, 2nd was Peter Hancock in his Cobra and coming in 3rd was Phil Sutcliffe in his Skyline GTR. Only 13 points separate the top, 10 so the season is off to a great start.
Amongst the competitors for the weekend were two Warwick local juniors, Tom Clift and Adam Baguley, both aged 15. While this is Tom’s second year for the super sprints, Adam is just starting. Both boys ran well and had an enjoyable weekend.
The next Super sprint round will be round 1 of the “B” series on the 24th and 25th of February. Spectator entries are free and all are welcome to watch.
